O Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation is developing an electronic platform to reconcile semi-live and distance learning during the Covid-19 phase.

According to the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Eugenio Silva, the tool, which will be distributed to educational institutions, will contain different functionalities that allow the material to be made available, as well as to accompany student learning when receiving classes.

We are in this dilemma between trying to maximize education and safeguarding the possibility of exclusion that technologies cause in Angola.

Several higher education institutions carried out tests and experiments for distance learning, as soon as Angola entered the framework of countries with Covid-19, with the use of inappropriate technologies.

In this regard, the Secretary of State warned that distance learning requires organization, arguing that the provision of content via whatsap, Facebook and other platforms is not enough, as did some institutions.

According to the official, in Angola some universities have electronic platforms, but still simple, to guarantee teaching and learning. Eugénio Silva informed that, the technicians of the ministry made a survey, in May, to verify the preparatory level, having verified that 50% of these reported that they were in conditions to resume, using the platforms.

Since March this year, Angola has had an approved distance learning regulation, which will allow institutions to teach at this stage of the pandemic.

  1. It is very interesting to know that our ministry already has similar concerns, but it would also be of great use if the team or company responsible for the design of that platform were also announced.
