The minister made these statements during the closing ceremony of World Space Week, which ran from October 04 to 10, and particularly highlighted investment in satellite communications and the Earth observation program.
According to Mário Oliveira, the Executive recognizes the fundamental importance of the space sector, given its multifaceted contribution to various segments of the national economy and the well-being of the population.
He said that, within the scope of the operationalization of the National Space Program, projects that translate into real socio-economic impact were pursued, with emphasis on projects linked to communication, with a view to promoting the new space economy.
Such projects, he continued, are in line with the commitments made between the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) and the National Institute for Support to Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (INAPEM), where support for the emergence and consolidation of “startups”, Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the space sector was identified as a priority, with a focus on Internet distribution via ANGOSAT-2, with an emphasis on remote areas.
ANGOSAT-2 marks a new stage in Angola's technological development
"We launched the commercial version of Conecta Angola, in which GGPEN provides specialized technology kits, to be delivered to startups selected according to previously defined criteria," he said.
He announced that, in this process, four startups were selected and will receive the first kits today, thus being able to contribute to the expansion of communications services via ANGOSAT-2, thus contributing to the reduction of info-exclusion.
He highlighted the continued contribution of operators using satellite communication resources in providing services to Angolan institutions.
"Regarding the Angolan telecommunications satellite, we also inform that approximately 90% of the C-Band capacity has already been commercialized and we have begun commercializing the KU-Band, not only internally but also to customers in the SADC region," he stressed.
The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication reported that during World Space Week, three connectivity points were installed in Namibia, in order to advance the commercialization process of the aforementioned band.
"We consider this step to be a very important one in the internationalization of ANGOSAT-2 services, as well as in the expansion of the space program, serving countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC)," he emphasized.
World Space Week 2025, which takes place annually from October 04th to 10th, is the date established by the United Nations to celebrate the contribution of space science and technology to the improvement of the human condition.
This year, the activities were carried out in partnership with the Luanda Science Center (CCL), with the national theme "From space building life on Earth", in order to reinforce how space technology has practical applications that directly contribute to the development of key sectors of the national economy.
