Mozambican enthusiast Jaqui Beccah is the latest young woman in the country to graduate from one of the best universities in the US, namely the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), known for its strong emphasis on science, engineering, technology and mathematics, as well as as in programs such as social sciences, humanities, and management.

In an interview with KABUM digital magazine, Beccah says that she entered MIT through an academic exchange as a second-year student of Architecture and Physical Planning at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), that is, in 2013, where one of the main difficulties was mastering the English language, which made me realize the importance of accepting defects and moving forward.

"Studying completely in English for the first time wouldn't be easy”, said Beccah, pointing out that “when I decided to apply for Fullbright, the English learned in public schools was of great value. I passed the selection and interview, and was selected for the proficiency exam".

As she shares the story of graduating from one of the world's leading universities, the young Mozambican leaves behind the message she left at the end of her dissertation: go, even to kenhar (fail) English.

Through her time at MIT, Beccah reiterates that she learned and managed to leave a little of Mozambique in what she considers the “best higher education institution in the world”, further emphasizing her achievement.
