Last June, the Mozambican customs authorities seized more than 30 mobile phones not declared to the tax authorities, destined for the national market in that country.

Said equipment was seized in the port of Maputo.

"As part of the verification, it was found that there were undeclared products. That is, instead of declaring the actual amount, the owner of the material said that there were only six thousand mobile phones. Our colleagues were not satisfied and found that there were more than 30 mobile phones in the lot“, said Limo Jone, Director of the Customs Operational Area.

According to the source, the entry of these undeclared devices in the national territory would harm the State in more than five million meticais.

"These attitudes are harming the State, because then we would not collect the amount corresponding to the amount of imported material. And this has an impact on the collection targets and on the financial strength of our State. We will continue relentlessly to discourage these situations. Our intelligence team is working so that we can seize everything that enters our country and is not declared“, assured.

It should be noted that this year, in Manica, Customs confiscated more than two thousand mobile phones, destined for Zimbabwe, making this the third significant seizure of mobile phones in the country.
