With the aim of reducing the number of robberies in the city of Beira, a 16-year-old teenager created an electronic alarm clock that can be used by the community to control robberies.

Gisele Chimoio, a student at a secondary school and interviewed by the digital magazine KABUM, says that the motivation behind the innovative creation is due to the “constant robberies”, where criminals break into houses, enter by force and escape with the belongings, this in a climate of “not arousing suspicion”;

According to what was revealed, the technological solution works as a motion sensor capable of detecting movements in the Manga neighborhood, in Beira.

“Any movement in the covered area triggers the alarm, allowing residents to react promptly. This may involve alerting the police, intervening personally and preventing the robbery,” Gisela Chimoio explained to Club of Mozambique, highlighting that her idea aims to minimize the problem of robberies.

When detecting human presence, the technological alarm triggers an audible alert, and the innovation is strategically positioned to cover the area that requires protection.

In order to make the solution more comprehensive and realistic, the administration of the student's school is supporting the production of additional sensors and also exploring ways to formally register Gisela Chimoio's creation, to preserve intellectual property rights.

As for production, the “founder” explains that it only needs two days, where the teenager's achievement was praised at the District Science and Technology Fair, an event that brought together student projects representing several schools in the province of Sofala, solidifying its position as a featured innovator.

Regarding her first transition from concept to reality, Gisela Chimoio emphasizes that the next step is to align with her aspirations and design similar solutions in the near future, taking into account the growing demand for her alarm sensor.

“The district fair aroused considerable interest, with many expressing a desire to assemble or buy the device”, said Gisela Chimoio.

For  João Ernesto, Deputy Director of Escola Secundária Mateus Sansão Mutemba, Gisela's achievement symbolizes the culmination of effective learning, stating that this moment means the “achievement of our teaching and learning objectives, as well as the materialization of the curriculum's emphasis on science clubs.”
