Tuaha Chabone Mote, PCA of the regulatory authority for the telecommunications sector, understands that the bankruptcy of TMCEL would jeopardize the stability of the communications sector and make the telecommunications market unattractive for investment.

"In this sense, the INCM, in coordination with the sectoral supervision and other competent entities, is doing everything possible to find a solution that is viable and sustainable, both for the State and for TMCEL“, said the PCA.

In this sense, the INCM it will apply measures that facilitate the operator's work, so that it can return to work and honor its commitments in the market. He explained that, unlike a financial regulator that can intervene, for example, in the case of a commercial bank failing, the law does not allow the INCM to pay the debts of mobile phone operators.

"The competent authorities will announce the paths to be taken, but we guarantee that the measures aim to make the TMCEL efficient, that it can generate wealth, profit and undergo reforms“, he said.

The PCA of the INCM was speaking within the scope of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the public institution, having revealed, on the occasion, that, soon, it will expand the offer capacity of the 3G technology of the telecommunications operators in the country.

Thus, each operator will go from eight megahertz to 10 and the service will make it possible to increase its capacity and improve the quality of service.

Given the high pressure for spectrum, the communications regulatory authority decided to make available to the three mobile operators, on a lease basis, the spectrum reserved for a potential fourth mobile operator.

Another novelty was the announcement of entry into operation of the internet operator – Starlink – in October this year, in the country, from whom high quality, fast and cheap internet is expected.

"Starlink's entry into the Mozambican market will allow for the materialization of the expansion and implementation of digital squares, as well as some public sector institutions for free“, and the project to digitize libraries in capital cities will be launched, so that people have access to digital books in various areas.

Regarding cases of fraud, through telephone messages, the INCM guaranteed that, with the launch of the platform for complaints six months ago, investigations are still ongoing to find the criminals, with the Attorney General's Office and mobile operators.
