The installation of new digital systems is one of the reasons that has caused problems with buying Credelec online, which obliges Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) to keep the stores open to the public for a long time.

Depending on the problem and complaints from customers, the public electricity production and distribution company speaks of a failure in the system, within the scope of its stabilization and development.

"The system we are using has been around since 2010; it is already outdated. What happened is that our redundant systems, being our online stores, took a long time to come on, and the solution that the technicians found immediately was to restart the systems, which would have caused this failure that culminated in the stoppage of electricity sales. for a certain period”, explained Luís Amado, spokesman for EDM.

For customers who may have been harmed, from a material point of view, with the system failure, EDM assures that it is studying a form of compensation and states that it has already made notes of some alleged occurrences.

"Those who were actually affected are those customers who had a power outage in those days. For being without energy for a long time, they had material disorders. Regarding compensation, EDM can see it on a case-by-case basis, and as soon as it is proven, we will start payments”, informed Luís Amado.

The company also says that there is a need to implement new infrastructures at a technological level to avoid problems of this kind.

"Clearly, the infrastructure we have today will not support the six million five hundred thousand customers. We are implementing a large project, which is the stabilization and expansion of systems and infrastructures for the ecological support of several initiatives that the process involves”, reiterated Luís Amado.

The Mozambican company also revealed that a more dynamic Call Center should start operating later this year to respond to the concerns of more customers, within the scope of universal access to electricity.

It should be noted that the EDM digitization project started in 2020 and has funding of US$29,5 million provided by the World Bank.
