[Mozambique] Partnership with Huawei will promote digital transformation projects

Several digital transformation projects will be implemented in Mozambique with a view to improving inclusion, productivity, competitiveness, innovation and human capital development.

It is on this path that the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES) and the company Huawei Technologies Mozambique signed a memorandum of understanding to establish cooperation in the fields of digital innovation and capacity building.

The agreement was signed by the permanent secretary of MCTES, Nilsa Miquidade and the President of Huawei for Sub-Saharan Africa, Chen Lei.

On the occasion, Daniel Nivagara, Minister for the portfolio, said that the partnership will encourage the maximization of the potential of science, technology and higher education, as well as provide scientific and technological solutions that catalyze local and national development.

"We hope that the memorandum contributes to the promotion of digital inclusion through the connection of more citizens through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), mainly in rural areas, to increase the national capacity to prevent, combat and mitigate cyber crimes and to train young people in digital talents“, he underlined.

According to Chen Lei, President of Huawei for Sub-Saharan Africa, the company is willing to work closely with the Mozambican government to achieve the goal of connecting 4,5 million unconnected people in remote areas, reducing the digital divide and ensuring that everyone have equal access to internet services.

“This will promote the development of applications such as remote education, mobile payments and electronic commerce, which will improve the living conditions of the population, increase the productivity of rural work and national competitiveness. Huawei wants to cooperate with MCTES and launch digital cloud services, helping several Mozambican ministries to implement cloud services in the next three years”, said Lee.

In turn, Wang He Jun, Chinese ambassador to Mozambique, said that the agreement will help Mozambique to raise the level of safe and effective digital governance and governance, train professionals, as well as strengthen the competitiveness of young people in the job market.
