O Minister of Higher Education of Mozambique, Daniel Nivagara, considered as untrue the declarations of its Director of Planning, who, in July last year, guaranteed that the mechanisms for implementing the initiative “One student, One computer” were in the final phase.
Speaking at an event where he was present, Nivagara said that, so far, not a single computer had been purchased, as the implementation criteria had not been finalized, stressing that the promises made by the Director of Planning, Statistics and Cooperation, Alberto Tonela, were nothing more than words in the void.
In addition to denying the words of his colleague, the Minister of Higher Education stressed that not even a tender to acquire the equipment has been launched.
"What failed in this process is the concertation between higher education institutions. As you may know, we are a country with 56 higher education institutions and all of them needed to be involved in the design of implementation mechanisms. What we can guarantee is that once all implementation mechanisms have been improved, a public tender will be held for the acquisition of computers“, said the Minister.
BUT: Mozambique. Evaluated the technological needs of educational institutions
Still in his approach and although he did not provide concrete dates, Daniel Nivagara promised that the initiative “One student, One Computer” is not a mirage of the Mozambican Government.
"We guarantee that the project is in progress and that, after this exercise with the educational institutions, we will be able, later this year, to implement this project“, concluded Daniel Nivagara.
