Mozambique has basic infrastructure problems for accessing the Internet, acknowledged several specialists in information and communication technologies who attended the last edition of the MozTech, held last May, at Arena 3D, in Katembe, Maputo City.

For Vitor Cau, representative of PHC Software, these problems are authentic obstacles, which suggests that investors should tackle these constraints.

"The opportunities that the country has will only be taken advantage of by companies and managers that migrate. We don't have to invent ways to reach people, we have to use means to reach people", said.

Another participant in the main technological event was the Director of Millennium BIM, Jorge Octávio, who stressed that banks are also present on digital platforms, even adding that a commercial bank cannot operate without digital platforms.

"BIM is no exception. In these two years, closed at home because of the pandemic, we often had to use our cell phones to work. Of our active customers, 7 out of 10 use digital platforms”.

According to the Director of Millennium BIM, things that Mozambique could not dream of a few years ago are possible today, stressing that if there is no investment in internet bases in the country, companies run the risk of disappearing.

BUT: Mozambique registers increase in business on digital platforms

Jorge Octávio reinforces that it is not enough just to be on the internet and import technologies, it is recommended that investors are aware of the importance of the context, in order to avoid services that are good, but inadequate for the Mozambican reality.

Still on this subject and representing the Mozambican Government, Lourino Chemane, PCA of the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, informed that it is not enough to have robust infrastructures without security. The manager recalled that not all content should be taken to digital platforms, for security reasons.

Chemane revealed that the Government is thinking about a data management mechanism, which is a feature of great importance in this century.

“we need to take care of data to guarantee the sovereignty and privacy of citizens” reiterated.

The PCA also underlined that the Government is interested in protecting the consumer and the private sector, which contributes to the production of content in cyberspace, and where it advised investors to know the limits of the Mozambican State, to think of borders within the internet space , which has a concrete operating logic.

"For example, an entrepreneur must know where he is hosting a website in order to know where to seek help in cases of need. It is the Government’s priority to promote digital entrepreneurship and create a business ecosystem in the digital area, contributing to GDP”, finished.
