Mozambique will have its first independent data storage centre, which will be built from scratch in the Beluane Industrial Park (Moz Parks), in Maputo province.

Budgeted at US$20 million, financed by the Raxio Group, the new data center will support the country's digital growth, offering reliable storage environments that will be operated by a team of trained young Mozambicans.

"In addition to storage capacity, the hub will ensure interconnection through cloud and carrier neutral collocation services for public and private sector users, creating an ideal environment for businesses and connectivity providers to interconnect, process and store data, reducing content costs, across the country“, said Júlio Parruque, Governor of Maputo, at the opening ceremony.

During the laying of the first stone of the future installation, the Governor highlighted the importance of investments of that magnitude in the province of Maputo, since, according to him, the data center “it is an asset in terms of cybersecurity in Maputo and in the country in general".

He referred that MozParks in Beluluane is a clear example of the vision that the province has on attracting investments to ensure economic and social development, opening up more jobs for young people.

"We see land as a valuable resource and we want there to be no bureaucracy in assigning it to investors. This initiative will accelerate the development of the province and we want it to be embraced by everyone. We hope that the project will help the country to take a leap forward in cyber security”, said the Governor.

In turn, the CEO of Raxio Group, Robert Mullins, highlighted the role that Raxio Mozambique will play in strengthening the digital backbone of the country, through the provision of secure storage environments.

"We are pleased to launch yet another facility, which demonstrates Raxio's commitment to serving the region's economy. Every day more and more Mozambicans are joining the internet and the number will continue to increase. This is why access to trusted environments of this nature in Mozambique is more important,” Mullins said.
