Movicel, when implementing its mobile phone network in Angola, decided to use CMDA technology (Code Division Multiple Access - Multiple Access by Code Division) to satisfy the needs of its customers.

But for some time now the operator was using the two CDMA and GSM technologies ( Global System Mobile - Global Mobile System), not leaving in hand those who always used the previous system that the operator used, but apparently everything Movicel decided to leave the CDMA network and will start using only the GSM network (as indicated by INACOM, which will use this frequency range, probably for Digital Television).

In an official statement from Movicel, using its Facebook Official Page, the operator reported the following:

By indication of INACOM to release the frequencies where the CDMA network operates, Movicel will close the services it offered on this technology next March 8, migrating all our CDMA Customers to the renewed GSM network.
With the GSM network you will have access to better call quality, greater coverage and even a much faster internet browsing speed. The GSM network is also the only one that allows access to 3G and 4G technologies, as well as access to roaming and internet services on the mobile phone. If you have not migrated to the GSM network go to a nearby Movicel store and we will help you make the transition without any charge.

But what is the difference between the CDMA and GSM network?

CDMA - is the type of technology that separates the data and voice services, thus facilitating greater transfer to the data service (Internet). this is the recommended technology for use in 3G networks, since it consists of broadband and the transfer of multimedia messages.

GSM - is the type of technology that facilitates access to the service roaming and it has many difficulties of being intercepted by third parties (frauds), is the type of technology used in practically 73% worldwide, but it has greater focus in Europe.

At the moment it is not possible to say which one is the best, only they both present a certain disparity in terms of services that they can offer, and Movicel does not lose by doing this migration of all its clients to the GSM network.
