"Changed my life". Neuralink patient already plays chess with his brain

Elon Musk's Neuralink announced at the beginning of the year that it had started testing one of its 'chips' in the brain of the first human patient. Now, the company has shared a video that not only serves to update those interested in the process, but also to demonstrate the technology's capabilities.

The demonstration was carried out via a live broadcast on the social network X (formerly Twitter), where it is possible to see Nolan Arbaugh, aged 29, interacting with a computer using only commands from his own brain. It should be noted that Arbaugh was paralyzed from the neck down after a car accident eight years ago.

In the video, Arbaugh mentions that he has already managed to play chess on the computer and also the strategy game 'Civilization VI'. The patient noted during the transmission that he did not have any problems with the surgery in which the 'chip' was implanted, adding, however, that he had more difficulties in differentiating "imagined movement and attempted movement" to begin interacting with a computer interface.

"It's not perfect, I'd say we've had some issues", said Arbaugh. “I don’t want people to think this is the end of the journey. There is a lot of work to be done, but it has already changed my life".
