The participation of women in scientific research in Angola, there has been significant progress, resulting from government and academic initiatives that encourage training and inclusion in this segment, according to the Director-General of the Luanda Science Center (CCL), Diogo João.

The leader who spoke at the Workshop called “Women in Science: Innovating, Transforming and Inspiring the Future”, said that the history of science bears witness to the genius of countless women who challenged conventions and expanded the limits of knowledge.

However, it highlights that despite the achievements, challenges persist according to UNESCO data from 2021, where women represented only 33,3 percent of the world's researchers and in the STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), only 35 percent of students are female.

Diogo João highlights that there is still a long way to go at the National Center for Scientific Research, where women represent only 25 percent of researchers, which is why the CCL aims to be a platform for innovation, training and female empowerment in science.

Regarding the workshop, the Director-General considers it to be an initiative aimed at recognizing the essential role that women play in scientific research activities and productions in the world.
