A AdaptiveMobile Security, the world leader in mobile network security, has announced a new agreement with a group of African operators to ensure more security for their networks. The partnership aims to ensure revenue for operators using AdaptiveMobile's infrastructure to protect against gray routes.

AdaptiveMobile has proven that controlling App-to-Person (A2P) traffic on gray routes (Gray Routes) is a great revenue opportunity for global operators; yet many still do not have the capabilities to monetize that traffic.

But, what are gray routes?

Gray routing is a very inexpensive way to send bulk SMS that exploits a vulnerability in mobile phone networks.

In order to allow customers to use their phones when traveling, several operators allow overseas networks to pass messages originating from their countries to the carrier's home country, either for an agreed fee or, if the total volume of the message is low, for free.

Typically, if you're sending a message to a number that is in the same country as your number, the traffic is local, with pre-defined costs. But if you send your message to the remote network from a foreign country first and then back, you could reduce the cost of sending that message to next to nothing.

When the latter method is used for high-volume commercial SMS, this practice is called “gray routing”.

Considerable losses for operators

A data analytics company, MobileSquared, predicts that the gray A2P SMS route market will increase to $ 25,86 billion in 2022 compared to $ 1,7 billion in 2017. Operators need to review this opportunity . They predict that growth will happen as operators continue to deploy A2P firewalls to protect against lost revenue from messages - with 83% of operators expected to have protection over the next four years.

“Through our global analysis, we see that the significant number of revenue operators is losing annually; on an African network, we allow the operator to recover over $ 44 million (USD) in just 12 months “
"With this new partnership, we will extend our intelligence and experience to protect these networks against revenue loss, detection and blocking of suspicious A2P activities and ensure that only legitimate A2P and P2P (Persona a Pessoa) messages are delivered." -  Simeon Coney, director of strategy for AdaptiveMobile Security.

AdaptiveMobile's gray route solution is unique in that it allows multiple business models to manage gray routes, detecting and blocking where it originates as senders try and avoid or minimize payment to operators, protecting the operator and maximum revenue

The Adaptive Mobile Network Protection Platform has been proven through deployment in more than 75 networks, including some of the largest messaging environments.

The company did not disclose which 10 companies signed the agreement. Are Angolan companies included?
