MATSUKO, the company behind the real-time software solution for holographic presence, promised major improvements at Mobile World Congress 2023 (MWC). The company wants users to leave conventional voice and video calls and have a 3D representation of the person they are talking to, thus improving interaction.
To achieve this goal, the company cooperated with other industry heavyweights, including global telecommunications companies.
At MWC 2023, MATSUKO showcases the improved holographic experience in resolution, framerate, latency and bandwidth using the 5G network API provided by Deutsche Telekom and Orange, recorded during real-time holographic calls. These high-quality improvements are an evolution of the first phase project carried out with Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica and Vodafone.
MATSUKO, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, and T-Mobile US also co-hosted the first real-time transatlantic holographic call in January 2023 to measure the improved parameters of the holographic call under the 5G Early Access Program of Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile. Much improved holographic quality during real-time calls was achieved thanks to the 5G network, Quality on Demand and Edge Cloud APIs and their impact on latency and bandwidth.
Telefónica and Vodafone are also testing high quality holographic calls, preparing the service to be interoperable and integrated with various XR (Extended Reality) devices and services.
Telecommunications companies are interested in the MATSUKO solution, as it only uses cameras to transmit holograms in real time, creating the feeling that people are all together, bringing physical presence to remote communication.
African operators involved?
So far, no African company is implementing the technology, but assuming that Orange operates in 16 countries in Africa, it will not be long before the fruits of this partnership will begin to appear for our market.
