Namibia expresses interest in Angosat-2 services

Namibia once again expressed its interest in acquiring the services of the Angosat-2, according to the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies of that southern African country, Peya Mushelenga.

The intention was expressed in a meeting with his Angolan counterpart, Mário Oliveira, on the sidelines of the World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC) in Dubai, promoted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), a specialized United Nations agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Yesterday's meeting was requested by the Namibian side. The two counterparts addressed the current levels of cooperation between the sectors that each one manages, with Angosat-2 being an emphasized subject due to it being in the negotiation phase.

In addition to Namibia, Zambia's communications operators are at a more advanced stage in negotiations with Angola to benefit from Angosat-2 services, starting in 2024, Minister Mário Oliveira informed the press during COP-28.

The Angolan official said that, at the moment, there are ongoing negotiations with foreign operators, adding that the satellite, as such, is in a position to provide any type of communications services.
