NASA intends to land on Venus in June 2031, in a mission that will study the planet in space flybys and with a probe descent to the surface, revealed scientist James Garvin, responsible for the mission Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble Gases, Chemistry, and Imaging (DAVINCI).

"Our mission will launch in 2029, fly twice around the sun, mapping Venus each time, and land in June 2031“, He said.

The expert is one of the participants of the Global Exploration Summit (GLEX), an event that brings together over the next four days, in the Azores (Portugal), scientists and explorers from several countries to share scientific discoveries in the oceans, space and on earth, but also to discuss future missions in these areas.

According to the chief scientist of the US agency NASA, about 2.000 people are involved in this mission, including partners from other countries, a project that has a budget of one billion dollars (about 956 million euros).

BUT: NASA reveals that extraterrestrials may have already visited Earth

James Garvin also considered Venus to be a “sister planet” of Earth, which once had oceans, which have since disappeared, and it is important to understand the reasons for this phenomenon, through the observations that will be made by the DAVINCI mission.

In practice, the mission will include an analytical chemistry laboratory that will measure for the first time indicators of the atmospheric and climate system of Venus, some of which have already been measured since the early 80s.

NASA also hopes that DAVINCI will provide the first descent image of the highlands of Venus, while mapping its rock composition and surface relief at scales impossible to achieve from its orbit.

The mission will also allow measurements of undiscovered gases, including components that could help reveal the presence of water, either as oceans of liquid water or vapor in the early atmosphere.
