New WPA3 protocol for wireless network security to be released this year

3811

Recently the WPA2 Networks security protocol was broken, this vulnerability has endangered the integrity of Wi-Fi networks around the world, since they all have the WPA2 standard, the problem affects all routers that use the default regardless of brand, model, or usage.

To address this problem, the  Wi-Fi Alliance announcement (a group of companies responsible for certifying products capable of transmitting data over Wi-Fi, is working on WPA3, a new protocol designed to replace WPA2 and increase security. 14 years.

To ensure enhanced security, the Wi-Fi Alliance is creating four main features in WPA3:

  1. Robust protections, even when users choose passwords that fall short of the typical complexity recommendations;
  2. A simplified security configuration process for devices with limited or no display interface;
  3. Strengthen user privacy on open networks through individualized data encryption;
  4. An 192 bit security suite, aligned with the National Business Security Algorithm Suite (CNSA) of the National Security Systems Committee will further protect Wi-Fi networks with higher security requirements such as those in use in government, defense and industrial sectors

For users who purchase a new router or other network equipment later this year, many will need WPA3 certification.

It is also believed that existing devices may not receive firmware WPA3 due to the certification requirement, but this will depend in large part on whether manufacturers are concerned about the effort to protect the devices they have already sold.

Is it more than the time to launch this new security protocol?
