Number of malware for macOS grew 744% in one year

2525

A few years ago we lived with the information that there are no viruses for the system MacOS, but currently this perception has already been lost, since between the 4th quarter of 2015 and 2016, there was an increase of 744% in the amount of malicious files directed at Apple computers.

The large increase in malware for the macOS system was mainly due to the adware, software that results in users of MacBook's being exposed to advertisements, rather than risks to their machines. A worrying trend is a significant growth in IoT devices infected with malware, allowing them to be used as part of botnets for things like denial-of-service attacks on websites.

Although the numbers are high for Apple users, McAfee claims that the amount of malicious files for macOS does not come close to what it sees Android ou Windows, which is understandable, since they are the two most used operating systems in the world.
