Total number of Apple applications in the App Store declined for the first time

The Device Application Store Android (Play Store) leads in number of applications in its store compared to Apple, but apparently Apple is declining more than expected in this respect, since for the first time the company has had a reduction in terms of applications.

Well, the total number of apps available from the App Store decreased in 2017 for the first time in the history of the market, according to the analytics company Appfigures. IOS apps on the App Store shrank to 2,1 millions over 2017 after the start of the year on 2,2 million.

But what is the reason for this decline?

O decline can be attributed in part to the decision that Apple took 2016, which aimed to remove old applications that were no longer compatible with iPhones and newer applications, and which did not comply with the recent revision guidelines. This way applications that were not created in the 64 bit architecture were removed.

Apple also removed virus-cleaning applications, applications that were clones from other applications, and other low-end applications that were cluttering the App Store. At the same time, developers also sent a few new applications for iOS on 2017, compared to 2016, the data shows.

Google Play vs App Store on 2017

In 2017, the biggest difference between the two platforms was marked, the Google Play got about 1,5 million in new applications, while Apple swayed in 755.000 applications released in 2017. THE Appfigures said part of that was because many developers have released Android versions of their apps iOS, but not the other way around, as iOS remains the preferred debut platform.
