With access to information facilitated by the widespread use of the internet, new problems are emerging. One of the most debated issues in recent times has been the spread of fake news.

How do you know that the last news you read today is true?

Several organizations are developing ways to validate the veracity of information released on the internet. The Manifexto team (Angolan news aggregator) decided to take a step forward and launched the nuxo, the first solution based on artificial intelligence, aimed at detecting false news, developed in Angola, by Angolans.

What is the origin of the name?

According to the official note from the Manifexto team, ” nuxo is the diminutive of Manucho, a very common “house name” in Angola, usually given to the eldest son, the one who by nature is the most responsible, reliable, conciliatory, protective and always available to his brothers, in any situation“. THE nuxo it represents the same values, presenting itself as the element on whom we can trust and on which we can count, so that, at any moment, it can confirm whether a news item is true or false. The technology behind the nuxo, enables a solution for anyone, available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, anywhere in the world.

"O nuxo he was initially trained with a database of over 10 news items, all of which were identified as true or false. After analyzing all of them, the algorithm can identify a pattern, something that the human being cannot do. Based on this, an analysis base is created and, from then on, each news processed and analyzed starts to have its result incorporated in the algorithm, thus allowing the machine to learn. Which means that the more news that is analyzed by the nuxo, more efficient and necessary it becomes”, Explains Zedilson de Almeida, general director of Simpluz Technologies, the company that owns the Manifexto.

Analyze news in any language ...

The solution may have been developed in Angola, but the goal is to reach as many users as possible, as “Nuxo” can analyze news in virtually any language. The solution can be used by anyone in the world.

In addition, digital inclusion was guaranteed, since it is available on Facebook and can be used, without spending any balance, using Facebook Zero. For Angola, the more 15 million users of the mobile phone network, can use this solution without having to pay for the internet. Another 36 countries, spread across the world, offer this possibility.

"Because of the work we have been doing with Manifexto, in the fight against fake news, we receive daily requests to identify and inform whether specific news is true or not. The fact-checking process is very time-consuming, and consumes a lot of human resources, to research and investigate each of the requests. Therefore, and knowing that many entities are going through the same difficulties, we decided to use technology to facilitate the process, and consequently 'empower' the population.”, Explains Zedilson de Almeida.

Zedilson de Almeida adds that the nuxo “It will not solve the problem of fake news. The combat has to be individual. People have to be informed about the dangers of fake news and learn what to do and not to do so that they can actively contribute to reducing the proliferation of fake news, the nuxo just a tool that will help them in the identification process ”. Each of us has to contribute to the valorization of the truth of the facts and without that, it will be very difficult to overcome Infodemia and its countless perverse effects.

Testing the verification of a news item on the Nuxo platform.

Being aware of the reservations that millions of people have regarding Facebook and privacy, the Brand makes it known that the nuxo is not hosted on Facebook. THE chatbot ( that simulates a human being in conversation with people) on Facebook is just a bridge that allows its approximately 7 billion users to reach the nuxo, which is hosted on a server outside of Facebook.

Integration with more platforms

Those who do not have facebook should be asking how they will use this solution. In an official note, the Nuxo development team informed that it is working to launch on other platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal. For those using a computer, extensions are also being developed for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

To use the nuxo just click HERE and send a news link via Messenger, the answer is “instant”.
