The growth of ICTs in Angola after Peace

Angola, after the signatures of peace agreements, entered a new era of recovery and of opening up more to the world, and in the face of this, the growth of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have played and continue to play an important role in various sectors.

Throughout the 16 years of Peace, the national ICT market has grown considerably and allowed for greater openness in the country. Telephone operators in Angola were able to expand their services in several areas of Angola and beyond.

The technological advances that occurred in Angola after the shutdown of weapons are relevant in the public and private sectors, as well as in the social, political and economic contexts. The changes brought about in the development processes, and their consequences on democracy and citizenship, converge on a society characterized by the growing importance of technological resources and the advance of ICTs with the impact on social, business and institutions.

One of the factors responsible for the profound changes in the world are ICTs. Thus, with the dynamics of innovation, ICTs are essential for the development of the world economy.

Angola has been implementing several technological projects that were not possible in the time of instability. The country today is in step with the changes that the world of ICT has been registering, society more immersed in social networks, tools that have greatly helped in spreading the image of the post-war country.

Throughout the 16 years of Peace in Angola, there has been an increase in the use of technological equipment, from personal computers, tablets and smartphones.

In public administration, the progressive application and scope of ICTs is notorious, especially with the use of the internet in different spheres of government. The country's connection with other continents via submarine cables, as well as the launch of the satellite, are projects that aim to increasingly strengthen the growth of ICTs in Angola.

Moreover, we need to improve and, above all, to open up the mobile telephony market, to allow more operators to enter this area. We need to strengthen more and more the training of specialized technicians in order to ensure the various infrastructures that are increasingly emerging.
