O WhatsApp it renovated its desktop app in a profound way some time ago, but the old one, even with some limitations, continued to work and there are many who still haven't changed. But now they have no choice.
The WhatsApp officially closed its Electron-based desktop app on Windows. Right now, it's asking users to switch to the newly released native app to get back to having access to the service, and without any issues.
The change is obvious and is intended to provide a more streamlined, stable and feature-rich messaging experience on desktop devices. However, given the news, some users were resistant and dissatisfied with the quick transition and the temporary lack of business tools in the native app.
In reality, this step of discontinuing the app was not unexpected. WhatsApp notified users more than 4 weeks ago, with a countdown directly in the app's main menu. Now the message they receive when opening the app, since today, is that the application has expired and that to continue they have to open the new app.
There is also a direct link to uninstall the old application from the PC, so you can keep everything more organized.
BUT: WhatsApp will make it easier to send files with new functionality
WhatsApp for desktop more integrated
Electron's framework allows developers to build cross-platform desktop applications using web technologies, developing a single codebase that works on different operating systems such as Windows and macOS. However, they are not really optimized as they are designed to work on different systems and can consume a lot of resources.
Native applications can, of course, offer a more fluid and intuitive user interface, better responsiveness and greater stability. Thus, WhatsApp is able to guarantee a more robust and reliable messaging service.
Therefore, if you still haven't changed, or use the web version, or proceed with the new version installation, to continue using the messaging service.
