North African countries have the best 4G coverage

The studies done by African Union (AU) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), state that, North Africa leads the digital transformation with 84% 4G coverage.

Southern Africa follows closely, with a difference of 3 percentage points, the coverage of the population with 4G in North Africa. The same cannot be said of the weight of the telecommunications sector, which is three times greater in the north of the continent.

In large cities in Africa, about 61% have broadband connectivity and 39% remain without broadband on the continent. In intermediate cities, which radiate to rural areas, coverage is still deficient, only 35% of the population has broadband coverage.

In rural Africa, where 70% of young Africans reside, only 27% of the population uses the Internet. While in urban areas the majority of the population in large cities already use it. And about 58% of workers in formal employment use the internet.

Recalling that Angola is among the first countries to implement a 4G network in Africa…
