Galaxy S4 is the only Android smartphone to receive Security approval from the US Department of Defense (DoD).

This year DoD is willing to open up its communications network to other operating systems by not using the BlackBerry OS almost exclusively. Hence, it has done several security tests for various devices, with the intention of extending its range of devices to devices with iOS (Apple) and Android (Google) until February of 2014.

To date, BlackBerry devices were the only ones that were approved by the DoD, but the goal is to let employees have more choices on the devices they can use. One of the high points of the security of the Galaxy S4 was its security system known as Knox.

The Pentagon has also re-introduced the BlackBerry devices already running the BlackBerry 10 operating system, including its PlayBook tablet. Reuters, says that the US Government currently has 600 a thousand smartphones, of which 470 thousand are BlackBerry devices and the rest, 41 thousand Apple devices and 8.7 thousand Androids, were those that were in the testing phase.
