The National Police will open an investigative process to determine and blame the presumed authors who, last Friday, vandalized the fiber optic cables of the mobile telephone network of Africell, in the nation's capital.

This information was provided by the spokesman for the Provincial Command of the National Police, Superintendent Nestor Goubel, noting that the authorities became aware of the occurrence, through the municipal command of Luanda, on Saturday, when he attended the picket line at the Boavista police station, district from Ingombota, a representative and supervisor from the company BCs, manager of the mobile operator's fiber optic network.

According to the National Police staff, this vandalism caused a drop in the communication signal, where Africell was forced to create a supervision and maintenance team for the tunnels where the fiber optic cables pass.

"It was found in one of the tunnels, on Rua dos Ministérios, in the Boavista neighborhood, several pieces of cables scattered on the floor inside the tunnel which, when measured, reached approximately 100 meters of cables cut and left in place as if nothing had happened,” said Nestor Goubel.

It was also revealed that a participation was opened, and at this time the steps are in progress, to determine the presumed perpetrators, in order to be held criminally responsible.

BUT: Africell will operate in the Angolan market with telephone code 95

Africell starts in Luanda and arrives in Benguela in June

On the other hand, Africell expects to reach other provinces from June, according to the executive director of Africell Angola, Gonçalo Farias, also informing that the company will pay attention "special” to mobile data services, due to the propensity for using this service by Angolan consumers.

"During the operation, in some ranges of products, it will be possible to verify discounts of up to 50% of the data“, said Gonçalo Farias.

The sale of smartphones is another bet of the operator that justifies the decision with the lack of mobile phones in the market.

Gonçalo Farias said that the teams are working to expand the network to Benguela and Lobito, where operations could start as early as June. The company is also already on the ground to take the signal to Huila and Huambo, where the Africell network is expected to arrive by the end of 2022.

"There is also some prospecting in Cabinda“he adds.

However, Gonçalo Farias made it known that the pace and speed of the expansion plan is highly dependent on the evolution of infrastructure sharing conditions with other operators, in order to optimize investments and reduce costs. For now, Africell is sharing infrastructure with several public and private companies such as Epal, the National Police, ENSA, among others.

“We are sharing some infrastructure with Movicel, but none with Unitel”, stressed Gonçalo Farias.

In the start-up phase, the new operator will allow its customers to make free calls within the network, indefinitely. Calls to other networks will cost 12 Kz.
