The most recent study of Kaspersky, IT Threat Evolution in Q1 2025: Non-Mobile Statistics, reveals that 8,70% of PC users in Portugal were targeted by malware attacks in the first quarter of 2025, a figure higher than the global average of 6,46%.
To assess the risk of online infection, the cybersecurity company’s experts calculated the percentage of Kaspersky users whose computers had activated the web antivirus during the period under review. This data reflects the level of aggressiveness of the digital environment in which the devices operate, and varies significantly depending on the region.
Half of companies pay ransom after ransomware attacks
The study excludes detections of potentially dangerous or unwanted programs, considering only malicious objects classified as malware. In the global ranking of countries and territories with the highest incidence of online infections, North Macedonia leads with 10,17% of affected users, followed by Albania (9,96%) and Algeria (9,92%).
Portugal is ranked 12th worldwide, immediately behind Peru (8,78%) and ahead of Nepal (8,38%). Considering only European countries, Portugal ranks 7th, preceded by Turkey (9,10%) and followed by Romania (8,26%). Hungary closes the European table with 8,12%.
On average, during the first quarter of 2025, 6,46% of users’ computers worldwide suffered at least one web-based malware attack. These figures highlight the need for a proactive cybersecurity stance by both businesses and individuals, highlighting the importance of regularly updating software, using robust security solutions and adopting safe browsing practices.
