It's all in the pipeline for the Premier League to implement the assistant video referee (VAR) system from 2019-2020 time. The teams agreed in principle to the plan, and the league will formally request the approval of FIFA and International Football Association Board.
In April 218, teams voted against the use of VAR (which allows referees to view video playback to review critical moments) in 2018-19, although the Premier League conducted “non-live” tests.
After the successful use of the VAR at the World Cup of this year and of the system being used in some FA Cup e Carabao Cup, it seems that Premier League clubs are more willing to employ the technology. UEFA, the governing body for football in Europe, is also adopting the use of the technology in question, which it will use next season in the Champions League, and Euro 2020. The major leagues in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Portugal and the United States are also using the system.
