Science and Innovation Prize to offer 12 million to winner

The winner of the National Science and Innovation Award, which aims to stimulate and recognize the contribution of Angolan and foreign scientific researchers, inventors and innovators residing in the national territory, who stand out in this area, for the sustainable development of the country, will be awarded with an amount of 12 million kwanzas.

The information was revealed by the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Alice de Ceita e Almeida, during the press conference, which marked the launch of the event, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESSTI).

Candidates will compete in the categories of Science, Innovation, Invention, Career, Female Scientist, Young Scientist, Young Innovator and Young Inventor, ensuring that the National Career Award is the main one of the eight categories in the scientific and technological areas.

The second and third place winners, explained the official, will receive six and four million kwanzas, respectively. According to the Secretary of State, the first three places in each of the eight categories will also receive medals, diplomas and honorable mentions.

These categories, said Alice de Ceita e Almeida, are reserved to reward contributions in the areas of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technologies, Medical and Health Sciences, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts.

The leader announced that the ceremony to award prizes, diplomas, honorable mentions and medals to the winners will take place on December 13, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, which will be celebrated on November 11, 2025.

Alice de Ceita e Almeida clarified that the criteria for evaluating applications will be based on scientific quality, complexity of the work, originality, innovative character, relevance and scientific, economic, social and environmental impact of the projects submitted for the award.

Applications, he said, will run from the 14th of this month to the 14th of October and applications should be sent to the email: [email protected], highlighting that national citizens abroad and foreigners residing in the country can also participate.

The National Science and Innovation Award was established and regulated by Executive Decree No. 116/24, of May 24, of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation. The jury will be chaired by Professor José Serra Van-Dúnem, assisted by Professor Chivanga Barros, and will have as members the didactants Joana Filipa de Morais, Mário Kajibanga, Mateus Padoca Calado, Virgínia Lacerda Quartim, Irene Inakulo Moisés, Carlos Tuti, Hermenegildo da Costa Pinto and Carlos Fernandes Borges.
