Applications are open for the 2022 edition of the prestigious awards AWIEF Awards, which recognize, honor and celebrate women entrepreneurs in Africa from various industry sectors for their achievements and contributions to inclusive economic growth and social development on the continent.
AWIEF (Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum) is a pan-African economic empowerment institution working to close gender gaps by advancing business leadership and women's entrepreneurship in Africa.
Nominees for the AWIEF Awards must be entrepreneurial and “funders” of emerging and established technology projects that have demonstrated extraordinary vision, leadership and inspiration despite challenges to make a significant societal impact and/or to become successful in their business, in line with AWIEF's core areas of innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership and socio-economic development.
The winners of the AWIEF 2022 Awards will be announced and celebrated at a special ceremony and gala dinner at the AWIEF2022 conference, which will take place on September 26 and 27, 2022, in Cairo, Egypt, with the theme 'Advancing Africa through Gender Mainstreaming'.

The AWIEF Awards cover 8 categories with the following criteria:
Young Entrepreneur Award
Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 35 and must exemplify leadership in their field and the importance of entrepreneurship for positive change. Young entrepreneurs must have achieved tangible and material success (revenues and number of employees can indicate this).
Tech Entrepreneur Award
Candidates must be female entrepreneurs who have built an innovative, innovative technology venture or start-up that has changed the entrepreneurship ecosystem in their locale.
Agricultural Entrepreneur Award
Candidates must be female entrepreneurs who have successfully started a company in the agricultural sector and have a product or service in the Agriculture value chain with strong evidence of traction and impact in their communities.
Creative Industry Award
Candidates must be female entrepreneurs who reflect outstanding success in the creative industry, including music, performing arts, film, television and radio, software and interactive content such as virtual reality and augmented reality, media writing, publishing and printing media, design and visual art.
Training Award
Candidates must be women who have contributed and invested heavily in inspiring, mentoring and empowering women and girls, thereby significantly impacting the communities in which they operate and society at large.
Energy Entrepreneur Award
Candidates must be female entrepreneurs in the oil & gas and/or green energy & renewable energy sectors who are running successful businesses impacting energy access and availability in their communities and countries.
Social Entrepreneur Award
Candidates must be female entrepreneurs who have developed an innovative, systemic and sustainable solution that directly addresses a social issue, thus having a transformative social impact in their communities and countries.
Lifetime Achievement Award
They should be established for women entrepreneurs who have demonstrated long-term and consistent achievement in business and outstanding and outstanding business leadership. The award also recognizes significant contributions to job creation and the economy.
