Today, February 11th, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a date that was created to promote women and girls' access to Science and Technology, and to combat gender inequality.

The idea for the creation of the Day came about in 2015, at the “World Women's Health and Development Forum”. The United Nations General Assembly established the date on December 22 of the same year, through Resolution 70/212.
UNESCO and UN-Women are the organizations responsible for implementing the date, in collaboration with other institutions and civil society partners.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science aims to promote women and girls' access to science, training and education, raise awareness in society about the importance of combating gender inequality, as well as celebrate the role of women in the production of scientific knowledge and encourage women and girls to invest in science and knowledge.

Angola has seen a growth in the number of women interested in the areas of Science and Technology, according to the latest government data.

Currently, the executive has created several projects to encourage and empower young women, highlighting the awarding of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, of which 50 percent are intended for women and girls.
