The President of the Republic, João Lourenço approved the commercial contract for the construction, launching and orbiting of the Earth observation satellite, abbreviated to ANGOSAT-3.
According to the Presidential Order, ANGOSAT-3 is a consequence of the “Space Strategy of the Republic of Angola 2016-2025” and stems from “the vital importance of using space for peaceful purposes”, the socio-economic development and the strategic positioning of Angola.
The information is inserted in the Diário da República, 8 Series I of 2019 May, in which an Order of the President of the Republic authorizes the holder of the sector to sign the contract, as well as "all the documentation related to the project in name and on behalf of Angola. "
Still according to the information that is being cited by several news agencies in the country, the contract for the new satellite is valued at 179 million dollars and has already been signed with the company Airbus in France and the service life is 10 years and its handling will be ensured by the center of Funda with the participation of Angolan staff.
ANGOSAT-3 will be part of a network of such equipment that Angola must possess to leverage its development and respect its obligations and duties as a member of the SADC and the African Union (AU).
