Airplane Piloted by Brainwaves

Another piece of news that deserves the label "Believe if you can".

The project BrainFlight (flight through the brain) intends to prove that a person can fly a plane through the activity of neurons, with impressive accuracy.

To accomplish this task the European Union provided funding of 600 thousand euros, so that 4 organizations worked together to achieve it. Among these organizations, we highlight two from Portugal,  TEKEVER e Foundation Champalimaud (Portugal) working in partnership with Eagle Science (Netherlands) and Technical University of Munich (Germany).

The project was launched two years ago and to show the success of the research, a demonstrative video was made available:

What is the science behind this "magic"?

The answer is simple: signal processing. The brain emits waves that are measured by an electroencephalogram, thus registering the electrical activities of the brain, created by nerve impulses. When we think about doing something, an impulse is generated. What research institutions have done is to create an algorithm to decipher electrical potentials and convert them into control commands.

When this research is improved, the technology can be used in many other fields. But from what we can see in the video, it's just a matter of time.

And you, do you think this technology could be beneficial?
