As we reported here, PlayStation Network (PSN) and Xbox Live were hacked and out of commission. The attack was carried out by the Lizard Squad who only stopped attacking PSN and XBOX Live after the intervention of Kim Dotcom (the creator of the extinct Megaupload, and owner of the current storage service Mega). Kim Dotcom contacted the Hacker group and offered 3000 Mega accounts (each cost 99 USD, giving an approximate value of 300 thousand USD) for the encrypted upload service, in case the hackers stopped the wave of DDoS attacks.

Now it was Sony's turn to do its part and reward users for wasted time. In official publication  , Sony apologized to the platform's gamers and pledged to give 5 overtime as a form of compensation (for users who have paid plans).

Users who were just testing the PSN Plus service were also covered by the gift. The promotion is valid for the next 30 days. For those who have a free account (and more), Sony offers a 10% discount on the total value of a single purchase.

PSN has been operational since 30's December 2014 day, but Sony has so far not confirmed whether the crash was due to the hacker attack.
