No Quênia, five girls were selected to participate in the Google Technovation 2017, an event that aims to teach girls the skills they need to become entrepreneurs and technology leaders.

Technovation is an event sponsored by Google, Verizon and United Nations. The girls, aged between 15 and 17 years, developed the I-cut, an application to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The application provides a total assistance mechanism for girls at risk of FGM and also connects victims to rescue centers and provides legal and medical assistance.

The application has five buttons: help, rescue, report, information about FGM, donations, feedback and offers users different services.

Stacy Owino, Cynthia Otieno, Purity Achieng, Macrine Atieno and Ivy Akinyi, are the only ones that will represent the African continent, at the event to be held at Google’s headquarters in California, in the United States.

Kenya is one of the most technologically advanced countries in Africa known for its pioneering mobile money transfer applications.
