Kenya hosts the first Google Web Rangers Africa

Kenya will welcome the first “Google Web Rangers Africa Summit“, With the aim of disseminating security on the Internet and promoting responsible digital citizenship on the continent. Google has been promoting the safe use of the internet for some years. Its program dubbed the “Web Ranger” was designed to involve people in safe practices when surfing the Internet. The program is held for the first time in Africa. The program offers workshops conducted by local online security experts to help train young people. These young people considered ambassadors, carry out campaigns in schools and communities in order to raise awareness about online security.

The main highlights of the Web Ranger include: a bootcamp on how to make campaign videos for online audiences on topics such as diversity and inclusion, trust, tolerance and responsibility. Participants will also learn how to deal with real-life policy issues - focusing on cyberbullying and sharing personal information online. The program was launched in 2011 and currently runs in 15 countries, including three African countries, namely Kenya, South Africa South and Nigeria.
