Rwanda opened the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CyberHub), which will support cybersecurity education and training.
The facility is designed as a national hub that will cultivate top talent, foster collaboration, and enable Rwanda to achieve its goal of being a regional leader in cybersecurity capabilities.
The National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) further stated that the CyberHub aspires to bring together industry leaders, key international partners, and technology vendors to establish a dynamic hub.
He added that these collaborations will help further develop this project, which will have a substantial beneficial influence on the technology and talent environment for cybersecurity and data protection in Rwanda and beyond.
The CyberHub, located at the University of Rwanda's Faculty of Science and Technology, houses a Cybersecurity Academy, an Innovation Center, and technology labs.
The inaugural ceremony, attended by government officials and Cisco, opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT and Innovation.
Silvia Heer, head of cooperation at the German Embassy, emphasized the fundamental importance of security, saying it is as important to national development as roads, health care, and other essential infrastructure.
She praised CyberHub as a critical effort that increases Rwanda's ability to protect itself in the digital age while establishing the country as a regional leader in cybersecurity.
Heer further emphasized that the launch is a reflection of the strong partnership and collaboration between Germany and Rwanda in advancing digital resilience.
Dima Kandalaft, Senior Director at Cisco, highlighted the company's commitment to supporting Rwanda's digital transformation agenda. She noted that CyberHub represents an important opportunity to expand the pool of skilled cybersecurity professionals, help address existing skills gaps, and cultivate a future-ready community. Through this partnership, Cisco aims to empower Rwanda and the entire region with the expertise needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
She stated that the CyberHub offers a vital opportunity to increase the number of qualified cybersecurity specialists, thus addressing existing skills gaps and fostering a future-ready community.
Cisco hopes this collaboration will provide Rwanda and the broader region with the capabilities needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
