The government of Rwanda will start implementing a new education system based on “digital education”, which will allow students to benefit from teaching that emphasizes the use of computers and the internet to transmit knowledge.

Smart classrooms will give students in Rwanda access to basic computers and software, as well as internet access to improve teaching and learning. Thanks to a three-year project that the Rwandan government undertook with the Microsoft.

The project aims to reduce the cost of delivering learning materials to schools and improve learning outcomes. The idea is to ensure that Rwandan students become citizens able to work locally, on the continent, but also anywhere in the world.

Only 9% or 531 schools in Rwanda have Internet access and the Minister of Education, Dr. Musafiri Papias Malimba, said at the end of last year that the partnership with Microsoft is expected to reach more than three million students and 61 thousand teachers in all 3.500 schools nationwide Up to 2020.
