A Microsoft may be considering launching the next version of its operating system – Windows 12 – in the form of a subscription service, according to the PC Mag website.
The publication says that some references to “Subscription Edition”, “Subscription Type” and also “subscription status” were found on Windows Canary (a platform where the company tests new features and updates).
BUT: Microsoft intends to release another update for Windows 11 by the end of the year
If confirmed, this means that Microsoft could considerably change the experience of acquiring the Windows, which until now required a single purchase. By switching to a monthly payment subscription model, Windows 12 may also be available as a free version with advertising.
Of course, all this is just speculation, so we will always have to wait for Microsoft's official announcement to be sure.
