O South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) is now in operation and open to commercial traffic. The new digital information highway is the first and fastest link between Africa and the Americas with the lowest latency and will provide more straightforward routing for Internet traffic in the Southern Hemisphere.

The SACS Angola Cables it was manufactured by NEC Corporation and is one of the most advanced subsea telecommunications systems to enter commercial operation and connect Angola (Africa) and Brazil (South America).

SACS offers high quality of service and better latency of up to 60% compared to current routing options. The cable will also contribute to reductions in data traffic costs between South America and Africa, offering savings to operators that, in turn, could be passed on to end users and customers.

SACS is a new data path between networks, large content providers and some of the fastest growing data consuming markets.

The cable will allow Internet service providers and African users to take a more straight and secure route to the Americas - without having to go through Europe. Content service providers in Latin America will also be able to benefit from the option of using the SACS route to reach markets in Africa and Europe without using traditional and high-volume Internet traffic routes in the Northern Hemisphere.

SACS is owned and managed at 100% by Angola Cables, designed with coherent 100 Gbps WDM technology in an end-to-end solution. With 4 fiber pairs, it offers a total project capacity of 40 Tbit / s between Fortaleza (Brazil) and Luanda (Angola).

SACS cable commissioning is a giant leap in transatlantic connectivity and will have a profound impact on global digital connectivity and should accelerate business activity in the ICT sectors and stimulate emerging economies in Latin America and Africa.
