A Samsung, the public confirmed the suspension of production of the Galaxy Note 7, which was officially presented in August of this year and informed that the safety of its customers is its highest priority. But the history of technology is fraught with failures and disappointments. Here are some of the cases:
Mac Cube
Despite its record of success in sales and innovation at Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), nor is it immune to failures.
One of the biggest disappointments of the company created by Steve Jobs was the Power Mac G4 Cube, which appeared in the market in the 2000 and 2001 years and which was not so well received by its target audience, internet professionals and design.
The computer only lasted one year, and although it had yielded several awards to its creator, Jonathan Ive, because of its impressive design, turned out to be a sales fiasco. Its place was reserved to the Museum of Modern Art of New York - MoMa.
Virtual Boy-Nintendo
Virtual Boy was the company's damn console Nintendo, this release demonstrated that large technology companies also make mistakes that end up being costly.
We can say that Virtual Boy was a complete failure of Nintendo. It was even classified as one of the worst inventions in history, by the American magazine Time.
However, it must be acknowledged that the console manufacturer got ahead of time and devised a kind of virtual reality device for a market that was not yet ready to use it. The technology was considered bizarre and the design uncomfortable that literally caused headaches.
Zip disks
Another major failure were the Zip drives, storage devices that came on the market in the 1990 decade to replace floppy disks.
The devices were expensive, had many errors, such as the so-called “death click”, when the drive destroyed the data on the disks. They ended up becoming obsolete before disappearing completely.
Many users complained, but the device manufacturer Iomega, stated that the problem was caused by misuse. In the end the devices disappeared on the market.
The Sony MiniDisc
It was one of those innovative products that never get out of circulation completely. It entered history as an attempt by the Sony to migrate from the cassette tapes to the digital format and compete with the CD. The Sony MiniDisc did not achieve the expected success, although it allowed recording and re-recording up to 80 minutes of music. Among the problems was the difficulty of finding compatible devices and the low adhesion of the phonographic market.
One of the commandments in Silicon Valley, the mecca of world technology, is to know how to accept failures and learn from them. The motto “fail fast, fail too” says everything about the mindset of developers in the world of technology.
That is why Samsung, had no alternative but to retire the recently launched Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. The production and sale of the device were interrupted after the series of explosions and fires caused by overheating in the battery.
