If you are not connected to the business world, you must have read the title and asked someone what “SAP“. It is a company that provides software solutions for a wide range of companies. Imagine a really big company in Angola, which needs to manage the data of its employees and partners ... it is very likely that this big company uses SAP software.

To solidify its position in Africa, SAP plans to invest 500 million USD up to 2020, to improve the skills of local talent, and drive sustainable innovation and growth in Africa. Currently SAP operations are present in 51 African countries.

According to the press release, SAP Africa's growth plan is based on the following points:

  • Accelerate industry growth in the area of natural and energy resources, utilities, the public sector, financial services and telecommunications in countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola and Morocco.

  • Promoting innovation on the continent by accelerating the implementation of innovative SAP technology solutions that can help address the huge resource challenges facing Africa. The continent is in a unique position to absorb the latest technological innovations, including mobile cloud, as well as the flagship platform in-memory SAP HANA®, since in many companies the burden of old systems already implemented does not exist.

  • Increase the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which make up 40% of African GDP, by selecting Kenya as the next market for the company's Emerging Entrepreneurs Initiative, due to the strength and potential of the Kenyan market to grow and support a thriving business ecosystem.

  • Bet on foundational growth and skills development with the launch, by the end of the year, of additional skills in the sessions of the African Scholarship Program in Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria and Angola by promoting an open business ecosystem of qualified SAP consultants to execute various projects. This follows on from last year's announcement of the skills development agreement between SAP Africa and the World Bank.

Another highlight in this SAP investment in Africa is the short-term recruitment of up to 250 employees during 2015, the opening of offices in Angola and Morocco in the same year and the expansion of the company's partner ecosystem and SAP® University Alliances program in Africa.
