The improvement of the Credit Risk Information Center and the implementation of the most advanced technologies to prevent cybersecurity crimes are some of the main priorities of the National Bank of Angola (BNA).

This information was revealed by the BNA administrator, Pedro Castro Silva, during the 13th edition of the TechTrends, from the auditing and financial consulting firm Deloitte, stressing that trends are transversal to all countries in the world, taking cloud computing as an example, which, in his view, “is already a reality in Angola, where there are several companies using it in the field of new technologies”, as the BNA is a reference within the scope of its technology strategy.

Pedro Castro Silva underlined that financial institutions face several challenges from a technological point of view, including the emergence of fintech startups, which are beginning to challenge the traditional business model of banks, so that banks are forced to choose what type of of innovation implement, in order to remain competitive.

"The Credit Risk Information Center which, in general terms, translates into a database of information on customers taking credit in the banking sector, will allow, in addition to the data referring to the credit itself, to include, in the very near future, additional data that may contribute to a better assessment of the risk of this credit”, said the Administrator.

On the issue of credit risk analysis, Pedro Castro Silva maintains that it can be improved with the implementation of technologies such as Blockchain, which means that, from the moment there is a credit default, all the banks in the system become aware of what happened in a fraction of a second.

The importance of available infrastructure, such as existing submarine cables on the African continent, was another subject discussed by the manager, adding that “Angola has a privileged position because, in addition to enjoying cables that connect us to Europe and Asia, it has a direct connection with Brazil, in the city of Fortaleza, and from there it leaves for the United States of America".

"I think the growth that we have been witnessing in the number of mobile telephony users is remarkable, but what will probably contribute to an exponential growth in the use of mobile telephony are the services that can be associated with the mobile phone” such as “mobile money ” which, “in addition to telephone transfers, allows the granting of credit and microcredit through very simple operations by users”, Finished.
