SIC arrests ATM and Multicaixa Express fraud fraudsters

O Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) recently dismantled a network of alleged fraudsters, who operated from Luanda, through social networks and ATMs.

According to what was revealed by the SIC spokesman in Uíge, Zacarias Fernando, the suspects caused the fraud of five million kwanzas to two citizens in Uige, where they carried out their operations through social networks, creating false platforms for the activation of apps from Multicaixa Express in order to rob citizens and change ATM cards.

The arrests took place after two complaints from a retired teacher and a citizen, being the target of operations by delinquents in two ATMs in the city in the respective province.

The denouncers reported having suspected two citizens who were very close to them, but who did not access the ATMs, always giving priority to people who arrived after them, leaving afterwards in a vehicle, for the municipality of Negage, in Uíge, where they would have done withdrawals and transfers of said amounts.

"Those involved pretended to be in queues at the ATMs, getting very close to the people who were handling the devices and took advantage of any mistake by citizens to memorize the codes of the ATM cards”, said the staff of SIC.

The criminals were detained at one of the National Police checkpoints after their vehicles were identified by the victims, the accused were taken to the ATM where the whistleblowers had been, their identifications having been confirmed and the crimes confessed.
