The situation raised serious concerns about Singapore's national security, prompting authorities to step up efforts to mitigate the damage and contain the crisis. Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam emphasized the gravity of the incident and the need for a swift and effective response.
"I can say that the attack is serious and ongoing. It has been attributed to the UNC3886 group," the official said last Friday.
Attacks classified as Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) are distinguished by their high complexity and their ability to infiltrate critical systems for a prolonged period, with the aim not only of stealing sensitive information but also of destabilizing essential services to the population.
"There are also economic consequences. Our banks, airports, and industries could cease operations. Our economy could be severely affected," the minister added.
Given this scenario, Singaporean authorities are mobilizing strategic resources to address the threat and protect the integrity of the country's vital operations. The government's response includes implementing more stringent cybersecurity measures and collaborating with technology experts to effectively identify and neutralize threats.
The Chinese government has denied any involvement in the incident, saying it has also been the victim of cyberattacks.
