The first phase of the Research and Development Center (CDP) of the Sonangol, the main public company in the country, where the infrastructure is located in the province of Kwanza Sul, Sumbe, and will serve to carry out studies in the areas of geosciences, innovation, as well as in the field of the company's energy transition.
The opening ceremony was led by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, where the CDP was built at the height of contributing to the development of the national oil sector, in the fields of research and development applied to the needs of Sonangol's businesses, external customers and lead Sonangol's energy transition.
"CWith this step, Sonangol and the oil sector mark the beginning of a new stage in terms of their projections of action, which aim to relaunch the country in research, development, innovation, specialized and postgraduate training, as an important component of its activities with a view to giving further impetus to the area of hydrocarbons”, said Diamantino Azevedo.
For the holder of the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas portfolio, the CDP is an important project for Angola to accompany development in the areas of hydrocarbons, as a guarantee that, in the future, the country will become part of the great changes that are taking place in the energy transition around the world.
"It is an initiative with great economic and scientific reach, given the benefits and advantages that the center will provide for the challenges that the Angolan oil sector faces”, stressed the representative of the Norwegian oil company, Equinor Angola, Anders Opedal, who was also present at the opening ceremony.
BUT: Sonangol will support the creation of a programming teaching platform
According to what was revealed to the journalists present, the CDP will also provide specialized training in the various areas of oil, gas, mining and renewable energies, such as green hydrogen, biofuels, as well as strategic minerals of the future.
Within the research center you can find areas related to administration, Geosciences and Applications, renewable energies and sustainability, studies and projects, business center, auditorium, multimedia library, cafeteria, clinic, social center, houses (T2, T3 and T4) and T1 apartments.
It should also be noted that the CDP also contains a laundry area and another services area, data center, security building, water supply, electricity, telecommunications, waste management, laboratories, applied sedimentology and visualization rooms.
