Spotify will bring its video podcasts to Netflix starting next year. The move, announced Tuesday, is part of the platform's strategy to expand its presence in visual content and strengthen its advertising business.
At launch, the Spotify and Netflix partnership will offer a curated selection of podcasts covering sports, culture, lifestyle, and true crime, produced by Spotify Studios and The Ringer. Over time, the catalog will expand to include content from other studios and genres, according to the company.
This initiative reinforces Spotify's growing investment in video podcasts. The company began by launching tools that allowed any creator to publish their shows in visual format. Last year, it introduced financial incentives for top-performing hosts and launched a Partner Program that allows monetization of this content, a clear competitor to YouTube.
More recently, Spotify has also begun offering social tools that increase interaction between creators and their audience, such as polls, Q&A sessions, comments, and other features.
