Anda, an Angolan mobility startup, has successfully secured $3,4 million in seed funding in a round co-led by European venture capital firms Breega and Speedinvest.

Founded in 2022 by Sérgio Tati and Joerg Nuehrmann, Anda is developing an innovative technological platform that aims to formalize the vast and still disorganized motorcycle taxi industry in Angola. The company is betting on a "drive-to-own" asset financing model that allows motorcycle taxi drivers to acquire their own motorcycles, coupled with an integrated transport and delivery service, thus offering a complete solution to the sector's main challenges.

This investment represents an important milestone for the Luanda-based startup, which seeks to address structural problems in the country's mobility market, such as the lack of regulation and the difficulty of accessing credit that affects most motorcycle taxi drivers.

At WebSummit 2024, the ANDA team gave an interview to the MenosFios team, see above.

In Angola, the motorcycle taxi sector is essential for urban transport, involving around 1,2 million drivers, of whom 600 operate in the capital alone. Despite the size of this market, it remains largely informal, with many drivers working without a license, adequate training, insurance, or safety equipment.

Anda estimates that the Angolan motorcycle taxi market is worth approximately $5 billion, fitting into a broader trend across Sub-Saharan Africa, where, according to a 2019 BBC report, the total motorcycle taxi market could reach $80 billion.
