the angolan startup Digital LabTo Indie Game Studio innovative, dedicated to creating interactive experiences and telling captivating stories through the development of video games, is one of the finalists of the Demo Day of the international competition “Gaming Startup Retreat”, organized by Startup Madeira, eGames Lab and Nova SBE Haddad Entrepreneurship Institute on the day March 26, 2024.
According to what was revealed by the founder of the startup Marcelo Gomes, in an interview with Founder Institute Luanda, Digital Lab will present its project “The Village”, a trilogy that tells the story of a young Angolan woman who becomes a capoeira master. Set in Angola at the end of the 18th century, the game promises to be a rich source of Angolan cultural stories, providing an immersive and engaging experience.

Standing out as one of the finalists of the second edition of the event, the Angolan startup took advantage of the occasion to showcase its international video game ecosystem, where in the six weeks of the program, the team dedicated itself intensely to preparing itself in the best possible way for DemoDay , an event aimed at the gaming community, investors and stakeholders of the European video game ecosystem.
DigitalLab also had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned companies, such as InfinityGames and RedCatPig, prominent studios in Portugal, as well as German studios such as Bytro, which have a strong presence in the mobile games market. In addition, they had mentors who contributed to major console productions, such as The Witcher 3, Wolfenstein, StarCitizen, among others, covering various aspects, from sound and game design to issues related to market analysis, licensing and game publishing. .
The delegation that represented Angola at the event was led by founder Marcelo Gomes, specialist in Technical Art and Game Level Design, together with Vivaldo Zacarias, Agile Coach. During the event, they established important contacts with institutions such as Digital Valley and eGamesLab, the Portuguese video games consortium.
